STD Awareness Campaign

Chlamydia and gonorrhea were declared to be at epidemic levels in Douglas County in 2004. Rates are highest among persons ages 15-29 years.

The epidemic continues today, as more than 4,000 cases of Sexually Transmitted Diseases were reported in Douglas County in 2008.

In response to news of this local epidemic, the Women’s Fund produced the “get tested” marketing campaign in 2004, and it has contributed to a significant increase in screening for sexually transmitted diseases among the youth of our community.
