Around the office you’ll find her volunteering to help out, bringing treats for everyone and talking about her beloved Boston Terriers. Kimmy was recently voted “most likely to brighten your day” by her teammates.
As the Graphic Designer, she is part of the Public Awareness team and works to create concepts that visually communicate our brand and vision.
Previously, Kimmy was the Graphics and Web Design Supervisor for Godfather’s Pizza Inc. After 12 years of the pizza life, Kimmy found her true calling at the Women’s Fund, a place that harnesses growth and her love of helping others.
Throughout the years, she has spent her free time freelancing for various clients and running her own fandom shop. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in graphic design from Creative Center in Omaha. Kimmy loves cuddling with her two Boston Terriers (Kaiju & Noodle), volunteering for the MidAmerica Boston Terrier Rescue, obsessing over Bangtan Sonyeondan and using her talents for the betterment of animals and humankind.
Here’s a little bit more about our vibrant, sparkly and wildly talented graphic designer:
Q: How long have you been at the WFO?
KL: Three wholesome years this August!
Q: Where are you from?
KL: Good ‘ol Cherokee, Iowa baby! Home of the MHI AND PCRA Rodeo.
Q: Do you have any pets? What are their names?
KL: Yes! Two cutie, wild Boston Terriers named Noodle (7 years) & Kaiju (7 months). Absolute loves of my life! I am a crazy obsessed dog mama.
Q: What are your “big 3” astrology signs (moon/rising/sun)?
KL: Libra Moon, Capricorn Rising, Virgo Sun.
Q: What is your Enneagram number? Or Meyers-Briggs? Etc?
KL: I have no idea, but I know I did take that quiz long ago! (Editor’s Note: She’s an Enneagram 9, the peacemaker.)
Q: What are your top five favorite albums?
KL: In no particular order:
– Gorillaz – Self Titled
– Tegan and Sara – So Jealous
– The Faint – Wet From Birth
– J-Hope – Hope World
– Prince – Purple Rain
Q: What are your top five favorite movies?
KL: In no particular order:
– Turning Red
– Sinners
– Saltburn
– K-Pop Demon Hunters
– Hedwig and The Angry Inch
Q: Where did you go to college? What did you study?
KL: The Creative Center (RIP) here in Omaha. It was essentially an accelerated program for Graphic Designers where you could receive a bachelor’s degree in three years instead of the standard four.
Q: Do you have a secret talent?
KL: To be honest, no secret talents. I really am just average at most things. I do love to roller skate and people are usually shocked that I am decent at it. Thank you to my younger self for going every Friday and Saturday to Skateland in middle school!
Q: Give me two truths and a lie (and tell me which is which):
KL: I was prom queen my senior year of high school. (True)
A toenail flew into my eyeball once. (True)
I love spicy food! (LIE LIE LIE)
Q: Do you have a moment that really galvanized your feminism?
KL: Being a woman in general. No moment specifically but I think growing up BIPOC and living in low-income housing really shaped me into who I am today. Everyone deserves equality and rights! I honestly feel like all of the things I care deeply about have led me to the work I do now at WFO.
Q: Do you have a favorite Women’s Fund memory?
KL: So many amazing moments at WF but I really do love when we can be together bonding on a personal level. Our retreat last Fall (2024) was such an amazing time. I love spending quality time together as a team, just being in space together. I really love our Lead the Change luncheons too. It feels so wonderful to see so many folx in our community come together to support and show love for our organization.
Q: Can you share something funny or cringeworthy from your career?
KL: A moment from my previous job that sticks with me is when I texted the CEO’s daughter—on accident—asking her something very personal. I thought I was texting my partner at the time! Their names in my phone were so similar, just a few letters off! Natalie, the CEO’s daughter, texted me back and asked me what the hell I meant by the text. I couldn’t even spit the words out!! I was laughing so hard, no sound was even coming out! I ran over to my boss’ desk and he thought something was seriously wrong with me! To this day, the CEO’s daughter still adores me!
Q: How do you find joy or hope these days?
KL: I find joy/hope by:
– Spending quality time with friends and family (especially my dogs)
– Traveling for concerts and connecting over the love of music
– Thrifting—ALWAYS!
– Sharing a delicious home cooked meal with others
– I am hopeful when I am in community with others, especially on the local level. I know we can make a difference in this place that I love to call home.
Q: What are your currently reading/listening to?
KL: My brain cannot focus long enough to sit down and physically read a book. I have been jamming out to the Kpop Demon Hunters soundtrack, holy chit it is so good.
Q: What would be the title of your memoir?
KL: I had to call in the homies for this one! They said Unapologetically Unhinged HA!
Q: What’s the weirdest item we would find near your bed?
KL: Not one specifically, but I do have a bunch of tiny figurines and mini plushies; 9 to be exact ha!
Q: What’s an unpopular opinion you have?
KL: Pineapple belongs on pizza! Add a little cream cheese and BAM, so delicious. I actually really love green olives on pizza, too. I find that most people think that’s disgusting and more bizarre than pineapple.
