Women’s Fund Employee Spotlight: Jen Day

Say hello to Jen Day, our Policy Director and all-around advocacy powerhouse for gender equity in Nebraska. With experience shaping policy at the Nebraska Capitol and working directly in the community, Jen brings both strategy and heart to this role. Now, she leads the Women’s Fund’s advocacy efforts around economic security, reproductive and sexual health, and freedom from violence. We’re excited for you to get to know the person behind the policy work!

What part of the Women’s Fund mission excites you the most?

The opportunity to combine public policy with gender equity is really exciting to me right now, especially as we see the dismantling of established efforts of gender and racial equity at all levels of government. It’s an important time to stand up for what’s right and just.

Describe the Women’s Fund in three words?

Bright, hopeful, smart

If a friend were visiting Omaha for the first time, where would you take them?

Ooh this is tough because I am a proud member of the “I’d Rather Be Horizontal On My Couch Club,” so I don’t get out much but if I had to leave my couch, I’d take them to Ooh De Lally, Clio, or Yoshitomo for a meal, Joslyn for some art, local shopping at Ceremony or Great Plains Vintage. Walking around the Old Market is always fun, too, and maybe a movie at Film Streams.

What’s your favorite way to spend your weekends?

Relaxing at home with a book is my first choice, while sprinkling in a nice run at Chalco and some family time out at a meal or shopping.

Coffee, tea or something else entirely… what fuels your day?

I love both coffee and tea but usually start my day with coffee, followed by an espresso or Diet Coke in the afternoon, plus eleventy billion gallons of water throughout the day.

What’s one skill or talent people might be surprised you have?

I am wicked with boundaries. I don’t have time or patience for anyone or anything that drains my energy.

What fictional character do you relate to most?

Jessica Day from New Girl

If you could instantly learn any new hobby, what would it be?

Basketball so I could play with my kids and husband and not embarrass myself.

What’s a small thing that always makes your day better?

My husband makes me breakfast (protein pancakes) + coffee and organizes all my morning vitamins every day and it’s the best thing ever. Also, any day with sunshine.

What’s something you’re hoping to learn or try this year?

Patience. Serenity. Calm. Chill.
