New Ballot Initiative – Respect Nebraska Voters

It’s time to take our power back!

Today, we officially launched a new ballot initiative—Respect Nebraska Voters. Joined by local organizations, advocates and individuals across the state, we are tired of politicians ignoring the will of the people and undermining what we’ve already voted for.

➡️ Lawmakers have voted to undermine the minimum wage increase by weakening the increase and capping future cost-of-living increases.

➡️ Members of the Nebraska Legislature rolled back paid sick leave and took coverage away from 140,000 hardworking Nebraskans.

➡️ The new state commission overseeing medical marijuana ignored key parts of the law voters passed.

➡️ After Nebraskans voted against private school vouchers, the Governor and Legislature moved forward with a new program that takes taxpayer dollars away from public schools.

If passed by the majority of voters in Nebraska, this ballot initiative will change the number of members of the Nebraska Legislature required to undo or change laws voters have passed from two-thirds to a four-fifths supermajority. The measure will also protect our freedom to vote on important issues impacting our communities by strengthening protections for the ballot initiative process itself.

Whatever issues you care about, from workers’ rights to health care access, this matters to all of us. Together, we can make sure that our lawmakers respect what Nebraska voters decide and ensure we keep our freedom to decide what’s right for our state, communities and families in our hands.

Read the proposed ballot language, and then learn more about this initiative and find out where you can sign the petition to ensure lawmakers respect Nebraska voters!
