Women’s Fund Statement on SCOTUS Decision

Every person, no matter where they live, how much money they make or how they identify, should have the freedom to make decisions about their own personal health care. Today’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v Wade threatens to take away our fundamental right to abortion. This devastating decision does not align with what most Nebraskans want, and will cause irreparable harm to those already facing barriers to accessing health care.

The reversal of a five-decade long law only deepens the massive gender, racial and economic inequities in our country. To be clear, this changes nothing about abortion access in Nebraska. Any further restrictions on abortion access in our state would require action by the Nebraska Legislature, and we expect anti-abortion politicians to attempt to further restrict abortion. Pay attention to our social channels and we’ll keep you updated on ways you can support abortion access in our state.

But remember, the Supreme Court and the Nebraska Legislature don’t control our bodies and our futures—we do. We always have and always will make the best decisions for our own health and reproductive lives. Collectively, we will continue to reject further medically unnecessary restrictions on abortion care whenever anti-abortion politicians try to insert their personal beliefs into our health care.

You are not alone in this moment. We will get through this together—in solidarity and liberation for all. Our fight for the right to control our bodies will continue.

We all deserve better.
